Every industry has different standards for what a great display case looks and performs like. We build to yours. From protecting priceless artifacts to elevating luxury goods, our cases are engineered for their environment.
Not every display case is created equal, and not every manufacturer understands the difference. A jewelry showcase needs to make a two-carat stone look flawless under light. A museum case needs to protect a 200-year-old artifact for the next 200 years. A retail fixture needs to survive daily access without showing a day of wear. These are not the same product.
Obsidian builds each one with the specific demands of its environment in mind. Sourced, manufactured, and assembled in our Fergus, Ontario workshop, we use premium materials—thicker glass, sturdier aluminum, and archival-grade components—to deliver cases that perform flawlessly for decades. Find your industry below, explore your configuration options, and tell us about your project when you are ready.
Great collections deserve cases that take preservation as seriously as presentation. Obsidian museum display cases are built to institutional standards that curators and exhibit designers trust. We engineer for longevity, using UV-protective glazing that filters out the wavelengths that degrade organic materials, archival-grade interior finishes that will not off-gas near sensitive artifacts, and museum-grade locking hardware designed for controlled access over decades.
We have worked on everything from single featured object cases in heritage homes to full gallery installations in major institutions. Each project starts with a direct conversation with the people responsible for the collection.
Trusted by institutions including The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, Global Affairs Canada, The RCA Museum, Royal Canadian Mint, and the Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum amung many.
A retail display case that looks impressive on day one but starts showing its age by month six is an expensive disappointment. Obsidian retail showcases are engineered for the reality of a busy retail floor: hardware specified for hundreds of open-and-close cycles, aluminum framing that holds its geometry, and glass that resists the minor impacts and fingerprints of a high-traffic environment.
Available in fully custom configurations for brand-aligned finishes, and in our standard ready-to-order range for projects with faster timelines.
Cannabis retail is a regulated environment, but that does not mean it needs to look like one. The best dispensaries know that presentation is part of the product experience. Obsidian builds dispensary display cases that meet compliance requirements without sacrificing the aesthetic that modern cannabis retail demands. Expect secure locking access, configurations that work with your product formats, and clean, professional lines.
Serious collectors spend years building something worth protecting. Obsidian builds collectible display cases for sports memorabilia, coins, militaria, and objects that do not conform to any standard format. We offer custom dimensions, archival-safe materials, and security hardware that matches the collection’s value.
Every Obsidian display case, whether built to a custom specification or ordered from our standard range, can be tailored with the options below. These decisions are made during the design phase because they affect how the case performs. Getting them right at the start is worth the conversation.
Five standard exterior finishes are available: Midnight, Sheer Beauty, After Hours, Stargazer, and Vanilla. Every case ships with a satin white melamine interior as the default. Custom interior colours are available on request. If your project requires a specific brand colour or a finish matched to existing millwork, select Custom Colour and we will work through the match with you.
Every light fixture is built directly into the case with no visible wiring. All lighting operates at 24V low voltage and is UL certified. Showcase cases come standard with one horizontal light rail. Wall cases are fitted with LED puck lights. For projects where lighting is critical (like jewelry), placement and intensity are specified during the design phase.
Lower storage is available in two formats: hinged doors with locks or drawers with locks. Ideal for retail environments needing fast, secure stock access, or for institutions needing space for related materials adjacent to the display.
When showcases are installed in a continuous run or against a wall, a mirror side panel replaces the glass on the interior-facing side. This creates a significant increase in visual depth. For wall cases, a full-size mirror on the back panel transforms how products read from multiple angles.
The standard is 6mm tempered glass—tough and scratch-resistant. For environments where contents demand more, laminated glass is available. It is recommended for museum and archival applications where UV filtration is required, and for high-security retail environments.
If the standard options do not cover your needs, nearly everything can be customized: dimensions, glass type, interior configuration, hardware, plinth design, and more. Every custom case is built to order and ships on the same 4 to 6 week lead time as our standard range.
Most display cases are engineered to hit a price point. The glass is thinner than it should be. The hardware is the cheapest option. In a product photograph, none of that is visible. In person, it is the only thing you notice.
Obsidian builds to a different brief. Museums need cases that will not compromise a collection. Jewellers need glass that renders colour without distortion. Retailers need hardware that performs reliably. The standard does not change based on the industry. What changes is how we apply it to your environment.

Some projects cross more than one category. A museum gift shop needs retail cases. A gallery that sells work needs archival and commercial functions. If your project does not fit a single industry, that is exactly the kind of brief Obsidian works well with. Tell us about the project and we will work out the right approach together.
